May 18th KSBR FM88.5 interviewed B.J. Snell PhD, CNM, of Beach Cities Midwifery on the history of the nonprofit Community Alliance for Birth Options and all that has transpired in the one year since its founding.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ALL WHO MADE THE 1st Annual Community Alliance for Birth Options Fundraiser Silent and Live Auction April 30th at Nirvana Grille in Laguna Beach such a huge success. A great time was had by everyone, the small bites and desserts were delicious and the items auctioned were incredible. But most of all we were able to use the event to help  raise funds to help all moms and babies, even those without adequate medical insurance, through the support of CABO friends and benefactors.

Midwives raising money for South County Birthing Center

November 4th, 2008

The women have formed the nonprofit Community Alliance for Birth Options. They will hold their first major fundraiser Nov. 11 with a screening of “Orgasmic Birth,” a documentary on birth. They hope to open the center in December. Laguna Niguel resident Ilone Gibson gave birth to her son last year at South Coast with help from her midwife, B.J. Snell of Beach Cities Midwifery (pictured above). “I don’t think it’s necessary for every woman to give birth in a hospital,” Gibson said. “I don’t believe pregnancy is a sickness. I enjoyed being in a hospital for my first birth. For my next birth, I don’t know if I would need it. I don’t know that I would want to give birth at home. It would be nice to have something in the middle.”
